YORK- Gary Gene Stoner, 84, was born on June 6th, 1941 in York, PA, son of the late Kay Shalone Peck of York and the late John W. Stoner of Dover. He attended Noel School and was a member of the class of 1960 at York High School.
He worked for Coca-Cola and 7up as a route salesman, supervisor, and merchandiser. In 1978, he started working for Sheffer Beer as a warehouse manager and then operations manager. He retired in 2009. He was a lifetime member of the 13th Ward. In 2011, he moved to Siddonsburg with his wife of 50 years.
Gary was a gentle man known by all he encountered for his eagerness to help others. He knew the names of all his neighborhood dogs and would bring his neighbors’ trash cans back for them. He loved visiting with family and giving belly rubs to all furry friends.
Gary worked hard and was proud to support his family. In his evenings, after visiting his grand kids, while on the way home from work and over the weekend, he loved to grill and would often be seen puttering around the house and yard. He liked taking care of people and was always happy and willing to help a friend or neighbor.
What brought the most joy to Gary's life was being Pappy, or Pap, to his grandchildren and great-grandson. His love and contentment were evident any time he was around them. From the moment they each were born until his death, he adored them. Whether he was speaking to them or sharing a story about them, his love and admiration was evident.
Gary is preceded in death by his son, Stephen Scott Stoner in 1986.
He is survived by his wife Christine (Shatzer), daughter Dawn King (Robb) of York, grandchildren Lizi King of Baltimore and Alex King (Alexis) of Dover, and his great grandson, Ev.
He is survived by daughter Christina M Dunlap (Brian) of Mechanicsburg and granddaughters Allison N. Dunlap of Bethlehem and Kyra M. Dunlap of Allentown.
He is survived by half-brother Robert Peck Jr (CT) and two step-sisters, Judy Peck (PA) and Louise LaChuga (CA)
Gary left this world on Saturday, June 21st in the comfort of his own home. His memory is a blessing to those he loved. Services will be private. His family encourages those who wish to drink a slow morning coffee by a window, shovel snow for your neighbors, pet a friendly dog, or wear blue clothes in his honor.
