Gary Eugene Greenawalt

Gary Eugene Greenawalt, 79, of York passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at his residence. He was the loving husband of Shelbia Jean (Diehl) Greenawalt.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Mother Sarah Ingalls-Howard officiating. Prior to the service, a viewing will be held from 9:00-10:00 AM. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.

Born October 17, 1946, in York, he was the son of the late Sterling A. and Romaine T. (Heindel) Greenawalt. Gary served in the United States Army during Vietnam War where he served with the 151st Transportation Company. He served as a heavy vehicle driver. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal for his service. During his career he worked as a heavy equipment operator for York International and Johnson Controls for more than 41 years prior to his retirement in 2006. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, and traveling.

In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by two daughters, Judy E. Cutright of York and Dawn M. Greenawalt of York; three grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Elizabeth Cutright, and Tyler Clough; five great-grandchildren, and three cousins, Edward Heindel and his wife, Jill of Windsor, Kathleen Senft and her husband, Randy of Vancouver, Washington and Doris Schiller of Emporium, PA.
