RED LION- Ferne B. (Barshinger) Arnold, 85, died on Monday, March 23, 2026 at Misericordia Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Edward E. Arnold who died on September 18, 2007. The couple wed on June 30, 1963 and had been married for 44 years until Edward’s passing.
A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2026 at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Home, 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion with Pastor Terry Robinson officiating. A viewing will be from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Freysville Union Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed around 2 p.m. at HeffnerCare.com on Ferne’s obituary page.
Born on February 17, 1941 at home in Red Lion, she was a daughter of the late George C. and Rosetta M. (Strayer) Barshinger, Sr.
Ferne was a seamstress in her early years and later worked on her vegetable farm while being a homemaker. Ferne’s love of gardening came from her mother. Her love for her flowers showed in her beautiful flower beds. She enjoyed working on the farm, picking raspberries and also enjoyed running her road side vegetable stand. Ferne was a giving soul who loved her family with all her heart.
Mrs. Arnold was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and also attended Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Arnold is survived by two sons, Jeffrey L. Arnold (Lesa) and Mark E. Arnold; daughter, Jennifer E. Arnold (David); five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother, Donald Barshinger; and sister, Debra Barshinger. She was preceded in death by her brother, George C. Barshinger, Jr.
