Evelyn "Eileen" (Blank) Bowers

Evelyn “Eileen” (Blank) Bowers, 99, of York, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at her residence. She was married to the late Richard W. Bowers, Sr., to whom she was married for almost 63 years before his passing in 2011.

A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Aldersgate Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, York, with Pastor Bob Kaylor officiating. The service will start at 11:00 AM. Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is honored to serve the family.

Eileen was born on October 25, 1926 in Frederick, MD; a daughter of the late William E. and Lora K. (Decker) Blank. She was a devoted member of Aldersgate Church. Mrs. Bowers earned her bachelor’s degree in education and carried a lifelong passion for teaching. Over the years, she taught in both Florida and Pennsylvania, teaching kindergarten, as well as second and fourth grade. In her free time, she enjoyed visiting and traveling to see her family, crocheting, and putting together puzzles.

She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She truly was loved for her kindness, gentleness, and her godliness. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Bowers is survived by her two daughters, Joyce C. Foster and husband Jimmie of York; Jeanne L. Bair of Hanover; a son, Richard W. Bowers, Jr. and wife Mary of Marietta, GA; eight grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Judith D. Bowers; two grandchildren, Jeffery Foster and Richard W. Bowers, III; one great-grandchild Isaac Workinger; a son-in-law, Gregory Bair; a brother, Leroy Blank; her sisters, Thelma Hildebrand, Naomi Myers, Amy Plunkert, Erma Miller, Grace Fox, and Annabell Powell; and eight half brothers and sisters.
