DOVER- Eugene I. Chronister, 96, died on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Beverly (Fox) Chronister to whom he was married for 60 years.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023 at Providence Presbyterian Church, 1215 Church Rd., York with Darryl Macpherson officiating. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements.
Born on March 24, 1927 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Ivan and Beatrice (Parr) Chronister. Mr. Chronister worked at York Naval Ordinance Plant and American Machine and Foundry and retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company and Navy Ships Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg.
Mr. Chronister served our country in the U.S. Army in Italy at the end of WWII with the 3195 Signal Service Corp. attached to 5th Army. He was a disabled veteran and received an honorable discharge.
In his retirement years, he enjoyed writing poetry. He volunteered at Providence Presbyterian Church as a Friday morning bulletin folder and their Bible study.
Along with his wife, Beverly, Eugene is survived by his daughter, Heather Hogan and her husband, Christopher of Plymouth, MA; two grandsons, Andrew Hogan and Ethan Hogan; half brother, Michael Chronister of Adams County; two half sisters, Mary Jane Chronister of East Berlin and Charlotte Calcara of York. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Cardinale; and half brother, Barry Chronister.
