Eugene A. “Dunner” Radel, Jr., 83, of Red Lion, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2026 at his home. He was the husband of the late Bonita L. “Bonnie” (Miller) Radel. They shared 53 years of marriage.
A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, May 15, 2026 at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with Certified Celebrant Allison Duke officiating. A visitation will be held from 3-4:00 PM Friday prior to the service. Full military honors will be presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard.
Dunner was born on January 17, 1943 in York, a son of the late Martha J. (Eyer) Radel and Eugene A. Radel, Sr. He was a 1960 graduate of William Penn Senior High School where he was a member of the wrestling and baseball team. Dunner earned his bachelor’s degree from Millersville University and master’s degree from the former Western Maryland College. He honorably served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he returned to his alma mater, William Penn, and began his career as an Industrial Arts teacher. Dunner later became Principal at Edgar Fahs Smith Middle School and also served as Athletic Director and coached wrestling at William Penn Senior High until his retirement in 2002. Along with his wife, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and cherished every opportunity to be with his grandchildren. Vacations at a beach were always his favorite time to enjoy life. Dunner was a talented handyman, his craftsmanship extended into woodworking and he had a creative eye that he used to photograph the beauty of the world around him. He delighted in the simple pleasures of life, from fishing in the bay to attending high school and college sporting events. A cold Coors Light often accompanied these moments of relaxation and camaraderie, reflecting his easygoing nature.
Dunner is survived by a daughter, Nicole R. and husband Joshua Renner of York; a son, Zachary A. Radel and wife Laura DePrator of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren, Nathaniel Renner, Zoe Renner, and Zinnia Mae Radel; two nieces, Kim and husband Terry Billet and Heather and husband Alex Winter both of York; and a nephew, Kurt Stein. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janice L. Mell.
