Ellsworth J. Gemmill, Sr.

YORK – Ellsworth “Duke” J. Gemmill, Sr., 89, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of the late Leona E. (Stambaugh) Gemmill.

Born March 25, 1937 in York, Mr. Gemmill was a son of the late Franklin E. and Hattie (Robinson) Gemmill. He was a hard worker. He loved tinkering with and restoring old tractors. He loved his family and he loved the Lord. He was the owner of Stambaughs Greenhouses until he retired.

Mr. Gemmill is survived by his three children, Ellsworth “Butch” Gemmill, Jr and wife Jean, Virginia E. Baker and Husband Bob, Georgia A. Babner, and Son-In-Law Jeff Stubbs; He had 6 grandchildren; Jamie Fishel, Bobby Baker, Michael Vansickle, Jason Vansickle, Josh Gemmill and Cody Gemmill. Ten Great Grandchildren and Six Great Great Grandchildren. Sisters Claudia Keister, Phyllis Workman and Wenda Yescavage. In addition to his wife, Mr. Gemmill is preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria J. Stubbs and twin brothers Bob and Bill Gemmill.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. in York is honored to serve the family.
