WILKES-BARRE-Eleanor Steinbacher, 94, of Wilkes-Barre, formerly of Williamsport, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Eleanor was born on April 1, 1917 in Philadelphia. She was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, where she was instrumental in starting the weekly Adorations. During World War II, she worked at a Military Defense Factory. In 1967, she was active in organizing Operation Vietnam. Eleanor was a loving homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Richard H. Steinbacher, who passed away April 22, 2006; a sister, Dorothy Briedenbach and a brother Charles “Joe”” Smith. Surviving are her sons, Richard L. Steinbacher, Sr., Midland Park, NJ and Gary R. Steinbacher and wife, Annette, Boyertown; daughter Clementine H. Coledo and husband, John, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, John Coledo, III and wife Pamela; Judith Coledo Kosloski; Lisa Coledo Hapeman; Lorri Steinbacher; Lynn Steinbacher Schmitt and husband, Lawrence; Richard L. Steinbacher, Jr. and wife, Claudia; Melissa Steinbacher and Karen Steinbacher; great-grandchildren; Tara Dorris and husband, Steven; Kristin Coledo; John Coledo, IV; Kaitlyn Carr and husband, Judd; David Kosloski; Sarah Kosloski, Matthew Sticco; Dylan Schmitt; Olivia Steinbacher and Alexander Steinbacher; great-great-grandchildren; Justin Coledo and Kerinne Dorris; several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. from Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church; 226 South Washington St., Wilkes-Barre with Monsignor Joseph G. Rauscher officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Nicholas Capital Campaign, 226 South Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702 or SPCA of Luzerne County, 524 East Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
