YORK- Eleanor “Ellie” (Srock) Gruver, 87, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at Country Meadows Trolly Rd. in York. She was the wife of the late Barry C. Gruver. The couple was married for 66 years when Barry passed away in 2025.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 West Market Street in York, with a visitation from 10-11 a.m. Her pastor, The Reverend Keith C. Fair will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery in York following the luncheon. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is honored to serve the family.
Mrs. Gruver was born in Ginter, Clearfield County on July 4, 1938, the daughter of the late Ira C. and Thelma (Williamson) Srock. She worked for Caterpillar, Inc. and later for H&R Block and Bon-Ton.
Mrs. Gruver was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in York for over 65 years, where she was involved with the library and helped with serving meals at church functions. She was a 1956 Graduate of Madera High School in Madera, PA. She volunteered for both the Suicide Hotline and Access York. Her hobbies included golfing, participating in card groups, especially the Caterpillar Card Club, bowling in bowling leagues, attending movies and especially collecting giraffes. She was an avid New York Yankees and Baltimore Ravens fan, was an avid reader, enjoyed the beach and loved animals, especially her pet dogs.
Mrs. Gruver leaves three sisters, Bobbie Hess, Elizabeth Wiseman (Bill) and Lorraine Williams; a brother, Ira Srock (Janice), as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Dirk Gruver and two sisters, Joan Dickinson and Hazel Irwin.
Memorial contributions may be made to York SPCA, York Symphony Orchestra, or Martin Memorial Library in York.
