It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Donald J. Schalk Jr., of Dover, Pa on June 11, 2026 at his residence in Paradise Twp. He was the loving husband of Tammy A. (Hartlaub) Schalk with whom he shared 35 years of marriage.
Born October 12,1959 in Sayre, Pa he was the son of Della Ann (Klose) Schalk and the late Rev, Donald J. Schalk Sr.
Don was a graduate of Wyoming Valley High School in Kingston Pa.
An avid gardener, he enjoyed tending his vegetable garden and sharing it with family and friends. He was a devoted and loving grandfather (pappy) who faithfully attended his grandchildren's activities. He loved to travel and treasured family vacations. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he was a dedicated fan of the Oakland A's, Boston Bruins, Miami Dolphins, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. As a faithful member of New Creation Community Church, he served others through mission trips to Africa, New Orleans, and San Diego. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, served at various food drives and community kitchens. Don also enjoyed reading, playing cards and doing puzzles in his spare time.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by two loving children that he raised as his own, Terry C. Cromer Jr., (Jenna Perry) of McSherrystown and Nikki A. Myers and her husband John Jr of Spring Grove. He has five grandchildren Dakota, Austin, Valerie, Brady and Bryan, and five great grandchildren with one on the way, a sister Eloise Casterline and her husband Darryl of Marshall VA, nieces Elizabeth and Eileen and many cousins. He was preceded in death by sisters Diana and Sandra.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law Shirley Hartlaub, sister-in-law Bonnie Martz (Greg) and brothers-in-law Jaimie Hartlaub (Tammy), and Randy Hartlaub.
A Celebration of Life Tribute will be held on July 18, 2026 at New Creation Community Church, 3005 Emig Mill Rd, Dover. Visitation will begin at 11:00AM with Tributes of his Life to following at 11:30AM. Refreshments will follow and casual attire is requested. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York is honored to serve the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Creation Community Church, C/O mission trip fund, 3005 Emig Mill Rd Dover Pa 17315.
