Donald “Don” L. Anderson of Red Lion, 88, passed away peacefully at the Victorian Villa in Dallastown on Tuesday, March 31st, 2026. He was the loving husband of LaDawn R. (Fix) Anderson, to whom he was married for 55 years before her passing in 2017.
Born on February 24, 1938, in Red Lion, he was the son of the late Carl E. Anderson and Mabel E. Anderson (Mundis). He graduated from Red Lion High School in 1956, Millersville University (B.A. in Education), and Temple University (Master’s in Education). Mr. Anderson taught for 33 years as a social studies teacher at Central York Middle and High School, where he was also a golf coach. He coached Red Lion Recreational Girls Softball in the summer. After retiring from teaching, he worked part-time at Village Realty. Donald also served in the Pennsylvania National Guard for over five years.
Mr. Anderson was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Red Lion. Don could frequently be found with a smile on his face and was known for his sense of humor. He was deeply caring and generous, always being there for his family, friends, and community. Donald was an avid golfer and enjoyed quality time with family, trips to the beach, and dancing to good music.
Donald is survived by his two daughters, Kelly Anderson of Bel Air, MD, and Kristi Rexroth of Red Lion; one grandson, Dylan Rexroth; one nephew, Jud Stauffer, and his wife, Kelly of Red Lion; two great nieces, Maggie Holroyd and husband Thomas of Mechanicsburg, and Sara Jarvis and husband Benjamin of Hollywood, MD; two great-great nephews, Halper and Jay Holroyd; sister in law, Ann Anderson of York. He was preceded in death by his brother, Barry Anderson; sister-in-law, Sandy Stauffer; and brother-in-law Joe Stauffer.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 220 N. Charles St., Red Lion, PA 17356, or the Dementia Society of America, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Victorian Villa in Dallastown for their kindness and care over the last ten months.
A funeral service will be held from 11 AM to 12 PM on Friday, April 17th at Grace Lutheran Church, 220 N. Charles St., Red Lion. Viewings will be from 6 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, April 16th, at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, and from 10 AM to 11 AM on April 17th at Grace Lutheran. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
