STATE COLLEGE- Don M. Dickinson, 88, formerly of Schenectady, NY and York, PA, died Monday, May 21, 2007 at his residence. He was the husband of Ruth A. (Eyler) Dickinson, whom he was married to for 64 years. A Graveside Service will be 10 a.m. on Saturday at Prospect Hill Cemetery in York. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is in charge of the arrangements. Full Military Honors will be rendered by York County Veteran's Honor Guard. Mr. Dickinson was born in York on August 16, 1918, the son of the late Don M. and Edith (McCoy) Dickinson. He was a mechanical engineer and a 1942 graduate of Penn State. He retired from General Electric in 1980, after 33 years in the design and development of steam turbines for power generating stations. He was a life member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a Licensed Professional Engineer, a member of Pi Tau Sigma, the National Honorary Fraternity for Mechanical Engineering, and was a member of the Adirondack Forty-Sixers, and had hiked and climbed more than 250 mountains in 17 states and Canada. He served in the US Army in WWII as a First Lieutenant of engineers throughout the western Pacific and earned a Combat Star during the invasion of New Guinea. Along with his wife, Mr. Dickinson leaves a son, James A. Dickinson of North Canton, OH and his wife Frances J., a grandson, Ryan M. Dickinson of Uniontown, OH and his wife Robyn, and a great granddaughter, Alyson Christine Dickinson of Uniontown, OH.
