YORK- Diane Sue (Wilt) Gerhart, 72, of York passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at York Hospital. She was the wife of Robert Joseph Gerhart. The couple celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on February 14, 2025.
Diane Gerhart was born in Danville, PA on April 19, 1953. She was the daughter of the late Sam and Sara (Goodling) Wilt. She was a 1971 graduate of Selinsgrove High School. She received her Registered Nursing Degree from the Harrisburg Polyclinic Hospital and her Master’s Degree in Nursing from University of St. Francis. She worked in a wide range of disciplines in her 40+ year long career, most notably in rehabilitation, home healthcare, and palliative care.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in York, where she volunteered regularly in their thrift shop and the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry. She was an accomplished seamstress. She used her passion and talents for sewing to bring style to adaptive clothing. Her love of nature and travel lead her to parks and locations throughout the United States, especially many trips to North Carolina beaches. She was an avid reader, founding a long-standing book club and was a highly competitive daily scrabble player against her husband. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her friends and grandchildren. Her trademark bright smile combined with her infectious laugh and personality was a constant at all gatherings.
In addition to her husband, Robert, Diane is survived by three sons, Michael Gerhart and wife, Jami of Danville, VA, Matthew Gerhart and wife, Ana of Gettysburg, and Mark Gerhart and wife, Lauren of Greenville, NC; five grandchildren, Samantha, Isabella, Grant, Max, and Leighton; a brother Tim Wilt and wife, Cindy; a sister Sally Willow and husband David, and nieces and nephews.
