Gettysburg – Diane Virginia Bailey, 79, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Transitions Healthcare in Gettysburg. Diane was the daughter of the late William and Ada (Schuler) Abel. She is survived by her husband, Larry Rodgers, and they shared 35 wonderful years together.
Diane is also survived by her daughter, Lisa (Bailey) McKenna and her husband Steven; two stepdaughters, Roxana Mack and her husband Steve, and Laura Henry and her husband Patrick; a grandson, Jonathan McKenna; seven step grandchildren, Danielle Myers and her husband Tim, Jessica Mckenna-Heaney and her husband Dylan, and Justin Dietz, Catie Dicariantonio and her husband Frank, PJ Henry and his wife Jodie, Paul Henry and his wife Liz, Parker Henry and his wife Ali; and nine step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Charles “Chuck” Bailey and her brother Terry Abel.
Diane grew up in York, graduated from York High with the class of 1962. She was in Germany for a few years where Lisa was born.
In 1995, after 26 years of service, Diane retired from GTE North.
Moving to Virginia Beach, VA in 1995, Diane became a licensed real estate agent in Virginia and broker in North Carolina. During this time, she studied for the ministry, and did her course of study on the Duke Campus over a three-year period.
Diane became a pastor in the Virginia’s, United Methodist Conference, and served as a pastor at Epworth United Church in Norfolk, VA. A Couple of her favorite areas of service were helping the homeless during the cold winter months and the Chaplin duties at DePaul Hospital during her Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
In 2006 Diane and Larry moved to Gettysburg to be near family, and Diane stayed busy by working at Jane’s Market and Weis Markets.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 AM on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with Pastor Dave Kominsky officiating. Prior to the service, there will be a viewing held from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery.
