YORK – Dean S. Wantland, 86, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011 at his home. He was the husband of Betty C. (Myers) Wantland to whom he was married 65 years on August 17, 2011. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, December 30, 2011 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with his pastor, The Rev. Sara A. Gausmann officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-10:00 AM Friday at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with a flag folding presentation by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born June 8, 1925 in Laurel, York County a son of the late Victor J. and Mabel E. (Rehmeyer) Wantland, he retired after 30 years from Caterpillar Inc. During his retirement he worked part time for Bowler’s Supply. Mr. Wantland was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church, Viking Athletic Assoc., West York VFW. He enjoyed bowling at the former East York Lanes and Lincolnway Bowling Center and was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football fan. He was a US Army veteran of WWII where he served in the Thunderbird 45th Infantry Division. In addition to his wife, Mr. Wantland is survived by a son, James D. and wife Karen Wantland of Natrona Heights; a daughter, Brenda J. McCleary of York; four grandchildren, Andrew and wife Carolyn Wantland, Renee Wantland, Michael and wife Kim McCleary, and James and wife Lisa McCleary; three great grandchildren, Ashley Santos, Ian McCleary, and Jordan Hansford; and a great great granddaughter, Madison Santos; and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice, 912 S. George St., York, PA 17403 or to Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 250 Trinity Rd., York, PA 17404.
