YORK- David S. Evans, 92, died on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at his residence, as a result of a farming accident. He was the husband of Janet D. (Gilbert) Evans. The couple planned to celebrate their 71st wedding anniversary in June.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Zion United Methodist Church, 1 N. Main St., East Prospect with the Reverend James Lewis officiating. A viewing will be from 2-3:30 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion is in charge of arrangements.
Born on January 31, 1932 in York, he was the son of the late George P. and Faith Marie (Small) Evans. At age 5, he moved to the family farm where he was raised. He graduated from Penn State University with an agricultural degree. Upon graduating, he took over the family farm and over the years farmed up to 1,200 acres. He also ran a dairy operation for 25 years and had 60-80 head registered Guernsey cattle. Dave was one of the originators and Vice President of Sechrist Sales Co. & Livestock Auction.
Mr. Evans was a member of Zion United Methodist Church where he served on different committees. Over the years, he served as Director of Farmland and Natural Trust, chairman of Auditors of Lower Windsor Twp. and other numerous committees and organizations. His memberships included Agway, PFA, Farmers Forum, ASCS, Pennsylvania Flying Farmers Association and Lions Club of East Prospect. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed flying his airplane.
Along with his wife, Janet, David is survived by three daughters, Vicki McFarland and husband, Keith, Christine Gipe and husband, Mike and Corinne Kramer and husband, Rodney; five grandchildren, David Gipe and wife, Spring, Tristan Philbrook and husband, Ray, Ria Schaeffer and husband, Matt, Matthew McFarland and wife, Amanda and April Bastress and husband, Duane; nine great grandchildren, Jade and Karlye Gipe, Bentley Philbrook, Derek and Hillary Christner, Matthew McFarland Jr. and Cora, Audrey and Drake Bastress; brother, George Evans and wife, Tottie; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, 1 N. Main St., East Prospect, PA 17317.
