York--Daniel Wesley Knaub left behind all his mortal challenges and crossed over the veil to join Jesus, his brother David C. Knaub and his grandparents Clair and Betty Knaub, and Paul and Myrtle Bailey; and uncle Dennis Bailey, on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
Danny began his earthly test on July 29, 1979 weighing only 2lbs, 12.5 oz at York Hospital. His 12 weeks early arrival was just the beginning of an adventure which lasted 46 yrs. Despite facing many obstacles, he was full of smiles and laughter. He loved horses, tractors, race cars, watching soccer, "fixing things", petting the therapy dogs in the Rec Dept, playing bingo, listening to music and doing crafts. His unofficial "jobs" included "maintenance supervisor" and "receptionist's helper"...and "unofficial weatherman".
"Mr. Dimples" was always ready to travel, whether to Disney World or Walmart...he loved being outside, gardening, and he took great interest in observing and predicting the weather. He had exceptional eyesight and loved socializing with friends and family. All the ladies said he was their favorite because of his personality, his dimples and his smile.
Dan grew up in York and attended classes through Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12 and York City Schools. He loved his classmates and adored his teachers. He loved riding the bus with his wonderful drivers. He attended Camp Pennwood and participated in Special Olympics. A special love was therapeutic riding because it made him feel free of his wheelchair and also because of the sweet people who walked beside his horse (especially the pretty young ladies!).
For the past 24 years, Dan was lovingly cared for by his awesome "extended family" at the Margaret E. Moul Home in York. In lieu of flowers, his parents would love donations of any amount, in his memory to go to Margaret E. Moul Home, 2050 Barley Rd, York, PA 17408. Their love, kindness and skill made his adult life meaningful, safe, and full of joy.
Daniel leaves behind his mother, Cheryl Folkenroth; his stepfather Richard Folkenroth; his father, Rick Knaub and his companion, Deb Bricker. All of them loved Dan very much and were by his side when he left this world. Also, his sister, Alisa, her husband Austin Miller and niece Madigan Aguillon and her sister, Sophia Miller. And many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews too many to mention.
A private Celebration of Life Tribute will be held at Margaret E. Moul Home. Officiating the service will be Dan’s special buddy, “Chaplain Mike”. He will be laid to rest in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, is in charge of arrangements. Special thanks to Certified Celebrant Allison Duke, who happens to be Dan’s cousin, for her love and assistance in the planning of services.
