YORK – D. Richard Waring, 89, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023 at his home. He was the husband of Laceda J. (Copenheaver) Waring with whom he celebrated 67 years of marriage on June 24th.
A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 2, 2023 at St. David’s Evangelical Congregational Church, 2411 Oakland Rd., Dover with his pastor, The Rev. Pat Teaford officiating. A viewing will be held from 10-11:00 AM Saturday at the Church. Private entombment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements.
Born May 29, 1934 in Philipsburg, Centre Co.; a son of the late E. Lloyd and Helen M. (Hamer) Waring; he was a 1952 graduate of Philipsburg Area High School. Richard retired from Met-Ed after 37 years of service. He was very active and served 10 years as President of the Men for Missions group with One Mission Society; faithfully attended St. David’s ECC; and was an avid Penn State football fan. He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife and loved spending time with his granddaughters and family.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Waring is survived by three daughters, Stephanie L. Correa and husband Gary of Copperopolis, CA, Rebecca W. Rhodes and husband Calvin of Corrales, NM, and Laura L. Waringsmith and husband Clark of Dover; three granddaughters, Monique Covington and husband Tarik, Jacqueline SmithHarmon and husband Jared, and Madeline Shaner and husband Cody; a great grandson, Jaxon Harmon; and a sister, Catherine Shaw of Philipsburg.
