YORK- Clair Eugene Kleiser Sr. passed away peacefully on June 22, 2023. Clair was born on September 8, 1928 and was the son of Dora Mazie (Hamme) Kleiser and Allen Hilary Kleiser. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years Marie Jane (Gebert) Kleiser; two brothers, Hilary and Lester Kleiser, and one sister Carolyn Ann (Kleiser) Schriver. He is survived by 3 children; Elaine Marie (Kleiser) Mann, Stephanie Ann (Kleiser) Hess, and Clair Eugene Kleiser, Jr.; 2 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 3 nephews and one niece.
Clair worked for Teledyne Readco (Readco Kurimoto, LLC) for 49 years as a machinist, electrician, and shop supervisor. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist 1st class for 4 years during the Korean War and was on the rifle drill team.
An avid bowler and golfer, Clair also enjoyed fishing on his boat in Rehoboth, DE and playing cards with friends. Clair loved watching sports, especially the Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Eagles.
Clair was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Zereditha/White Rose Lodge #451 F&AM and received his 50-year pin. He also belonged to York Forest #30 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, The High Twelve Club, American Legion Post #791 and Sychar Shrine #36 Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem where he was fondly known as “Pops”.
Clair was a member of St. Stephen’s UCC where he was baptized, confirmed and married. He has been a member of Zion Lutheran Church since 1997.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA, 3159 N. Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406 or Zion Lutheran Church – Pastoral Emergency Fund.
Services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 2215 Brandywine Lane on Thursday, June 29, 2023. The viewing will be at 10:00 A.M. with a Masonic Service at 11:00 A.M. and a Lutheran Service held shortly after. The graveside service will be held after the church service at Greenmount Cemetery with a flag folding ceremony by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements.
