WILLIAMSPORT - Charles J. Garverick, 86, died on Sunday, November 08, 2009 at Manor Care South, Williamsport. He was born June 24, 1923 in Williamsport the son of the late Charles E. and Grace M. Hughes Garverick. Charles was married on September 5, 1964 to the former Hilda L. Russell and they recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. He worked in the circulation dept. at the former Grit Publishing Co., for 45 years. Charles was a member of the former St. Mary's Episcopal Church. He was a member of American Legion Post #1, Young Men's Democratic Club, Republican Club, Moose Lodge #145. He enjoyed Penn State football and was a fan of JoPA. He enjoyed reading, puzzles, bowling and baseball. Charles was a Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies fan. He served in the Army during WWII from 1943 to 1945 with the 629th Tank Destroyer Battalion. Surviving are his loving wife one son Ernest (Susan) Craven, Jr. of St. Augustine, FL also two daughters Charlene (Richard) Wright of Williamsport and Patricia (companion Jeff) Shipman of Polk City, FL and an adopted daughter Danita (companion Tim) Arthur of Williamsport. 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. One sister Ora Guinter of Montoursville. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and four special friends Denise Polis and Hilda (Elwood) Iron both of Williamsport and Shirley Ferreir of Perry Hill, Maryland and Hilda (Bud) DeLaney. He was preceded in death by a grandson Ryan McDonald. The funeral service will be held 7:00 P.M., Sunday, November 15, 2009 at the Allen and Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira Street with Chaplain Rebecca Stover officiating. There will be a public viewing from 6:00 - 7:00 P.M. The family will provide the flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Tree of Life, c/o Wilkes-Barre VA Hospital, 1111 E. End Blvd., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18711. Private interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA
