Charles H. “Chuck” Hayes, 60, of Red Lion passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at his residence. He was the husband of Shannon L. (McNerney) Hayes, with whom he shared 30 years of marriage.
A viewing will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion. A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will immediately follow at 12:00 noon, with Pastor David Kominsky officiating. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed beginning around 12:00 noon on Chuck's obituary page at HeffnerCare.com.
Born August 10, 1966 in Baltimore, Chuck was the son of the late Howard and Mary (Dyer) Hayes. He poured much of his working life into the trucking industry, beginning his career with A&S Kinard and Buckler Transport, and later continuing with Day & Ross Trucking Company. His dedication spanned over 25 years, earning respect and friendships along the way.
Outside of work, Chuck’s heart belonged to motorcycles. He was a proud and active member of the Iron Horsemen Motorcycle Club. Though he might have seemed tough on the outside, those who truly knew him will remember the kindness and generosity he showed. Chuck was a man who loved deeply, cared greatly, and cherished his family above all else.
He is survived by his wife, Shannon, and two sons: Brandon C. Hayes and his wife Heather of Lynchburg, VA, and Ryan J. Hayes and his wife Alexis of Airville. He also leaves behind four grandchildren—Lorelei, River, Ari, and Caden Hayes—as well as a brother, Dennis Brown and his wife Patty of Baltimore, and his father, Bear Friedel. Chuck is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Weston Hayes.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at American Cancer Society or mailed to American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741. Condolences can be shared at HeffnerCare.com.
