Catherine Dane

Catherine (Gutkoski) Dane, 85, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully Monday, December 20, 2010, at Hampton House, Hanover Twp. Born in Wilkes-Barre Twp, on October 14, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Adock) Gutkoski. Prior to retiring in 1978, Catherine worked at Central Slipper, Wilkes-Barre, for over 25 years on the production line. After retiring, she enjoyed babysitting and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Catherine was an excellent cook and several of her specialties included pierogies, piggies and chocolate chip cookies. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by son, Donald Dane; sisters, Marie Naperkoski, Lillian Schulgen, Anna Christy, Elinore Cosgrove, and Genevieve Dinney; and brother, Donald Gutkoski. Surviving Catherine are sons, James F. Dane, Sr. and wife, Susan, Ashley; and John D. Dane, Hanover Twp; daughter, Catherine Witczak and husband, Raymond, Wilkes-Barre; sisters, Irene Frankonis, Bridgeport, CT; and Peggy Suboski, Wilkes-Barre; 7 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. The Funeral will be held Thursday, at 10:00 am, from Kniffen OMalley Funeral Home, Inc. 465 S. Main St. Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Carol Coleman will be officiating. Interment will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Hanover Twp. Family and friends can visit Thursday, 9:00-10:00 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society.
