Brian David Grove, 57, took his last breath on October 30, 2024, with his mother at his side. His brain cancer (glioblastoma) allowed him only this shortened time with us. He succumbed at Kingston Court Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center of York. Brian previously resided at 4101 Millbrook Lane in Mt. Joy, PA.
Born in York, PA on May 21, 1967, he was the only child of Sandy (Butcher) Grove and Gregory L. Grove.
Brian was a quirky kind of guy. He lived life his way and was well-loved. One of his most endearing qualities was his dry sense of humor. We will miss his spontaneous wisecracks and the laughter. Throughout his life, which included mild special needs, he was the inspiration and in many ways the life purpose of his mother, Sandy. He was also deeply loved by his maternal grandparents, aunts and uncles, as well as by his paternal grandparents.
Brian was huge sports fan and especially followed the Phillies, Eagles and Penn State. He read the Lancaster Newspaper sports page daily to keep up on stats and game times of an array of sports. Everyone who knew him would say that TV was Brian's favorite past-time. Aside from sports he loved watching "Days of our Lives", Local and National News & MeTV. Radio 96.1 SOX Greatest Hits was another fav, as were Dutch Apple Musical Theatre, action movies, beach trips to Ocean City, MD, and lest I forget- the man loved to eat!!
Brian lived most of his adolescent and adult life in Lancaster County where he received superior educational, vocational, and independent living support services. Elizabethtown Masonic Children’s Home, LIU#13, Goodwill Employment Services, Occupational Development Center, Lancaster Behavioral and Developmental Services, Ponessa Behavioral Health and Keystone Human Services were his lifelines. Not to be forgotten is the former Margaret Moul Easter Seal School in York Township where Brian learned to read at age 5 and received speech and horse-riding therapy.
Brian is survived by his mother, Sandy Grove (partner Jim Flinchbaugh) of Red Lion; father Gregory L. Grove (Alice) of Jacobus; beloved aunts Susan Butcher Demuth (Thom) of Cincinnati, OH and Elizabeth Butcher Murray (David) of Fairfax, Va.; great uncle Richard Sterner of Delta; six cousins and half-sister, Amanda Grove Brant (Gavin).
In addition, Brian is survived by his blended family members, Chip Dykes of York; Keesey Dykes Kleckner of Middletown; Annie Dykes Weiler of Elizabethtown.
Brian's best friend, Jen Matos, also survives him. Her encouragement, and love were his guiding light.
Brian was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ray and Dolores Butcher of York Township and Elston and Lula Grove of Yoe, PA.
Sandy Grove extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated Millbrook Team who supported Brian's independent living development in the community.
Finally, appreciation to the neurology department and staff at Holy Spirit Medical Center in Camp Hill, PA; Kingston Court Rehab staff and Gentiva Hospice and all who cared for Brian during his final months.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion. Viewing will be Wednesday from 12:00 PM – 1:00PM. Burial will follow at Otterbein Cemetery in Spry.
