Betty J. (Smyser) Strickler, 99, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025 at Country Meadows with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of the late Claude E. "Bud" Strickler, Jr. for 65 years.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Saturday, May 3 at 4:00pm at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. 1551 Kenneth Rd York PA with Rev. Eric Palmquist officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends from 3:00 to 4:00pm. Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory will be in charge of the arrangements. An announcement will be made regarding a social gathering following the service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Born December 19, 1925 in York, Mrs. Betty Strickler was a daughter of the late Wilbur H. and Elsie May (Joseph) Smyser. Betty was an active member of St. Paul’s Wolf's Covenant Church for many years. She graduated from West York Area High School. Betty was Co-founder & Sec Treasure of Gent-l-kleen Products Inc., a hand cleaner manufacturer which continues today under the ownership of Dreumex USA. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In her free time, she enjoyed time with family and friends along with RV traveling to Florida and the West Coast. She also spent many years enjoying the Chesapeake Bay at their Beach Harbor home in Grasonville Maryland and the Gulf Coast of Florida at their home in Holiday Florida.
Mrs. Strickler is survived by four children, Jane Gojmerac, Jim Strickler and his wife Karen, Jeff Strickler and his wife Cindy, and Jill Meckley and her husband Greg; two grandchildren, Joshua Meckley and his wife Meredith, and Megan Hacker and her husband Aaron; five great grandchildren and one on the way; two sisters, Josephine Sindlinger, and Ethel Wintermyer; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband, Mrs. Strickler is preceded in death by a grandson, Terry Snyder; and 10 siblings, Richard Smyser, Helen Bowman, Anna Baublitz, Albert Smyser, Kenneth Smyser, Clair Smyser, Ruth Grim, Norma Lentz, Mary Ellen Davis, and Aleen Kopp.
The family would like to thank Mae Ruth Frey, the staff at Country Meadows, and Life Song Hospice for their loving care.
