Barry C. Gruver

YORK- Barry C. Gruver, 91, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Eleanor “Ellie” (Srock) Gruver to whom he was married to for 66 years in September.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, November 24, 2025 at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 839 W Market St, York with the Reverend Keith C. Fair officiating the service. Prior to the service a visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M at the church. Burial will be private at Greenmount Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements.

Born April 16, 1934, in York, he was the son of the late Nelson and Fairy (Pfaltzgraff) Gruver. Barry was a 1952 graduate from William Penn High School. He started his career as a right away agent at MetEd where he worked for many years up until his retirement. Outside of work Mr. Gruver enjoyed refereeing sports, in particular volleyball and softball. He was a member of the YMCA and the Prince Club. He was also an avid fan of both the Yankees and Notre Dame.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a nephew, Derek Gunning; a niece, April Gunning; and a large extended family. Barry was preceded in death by his son Dirk Gruver, and sister Elena Gunning.
