WINDSOR- Allen Samuel Smeltzer, 88 passed away at home on February 2, 2023. He was the husband of the late Mary (Coeyman) Smeltzer. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on, Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Salem United Methodist Cemetery 458 Salem Church Rd. Windsor with Rev. David Feiser officiating. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory in Red Lion is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Bittersville on October 14, 1934, Allen was the son of the late Curvin C. and Almena C. (Emenheiser) Smeltzer. After he graduated in 1952 from Red Lion High school, he served his country in the US Army. Allen attended barbering school in Philadelphia, PA, earned his license and barbered in Stewartstown for 20 years. He worked in freight handling for over 25 years at Consolidated Freight until his retirement in 1996. Mr. Smeltzer attended Round Hill Presbyterian Church in Felton for many years. In his spare time, Allen loved to hunt and fish and was a member of the Hopewell Fish & Game and the East Prospect Fish & Game. As a dealer in old collectables, he was an avid flea market shopper. He attended and volunteered with the Lower Windsor Senior Center. He loved to run marathons and work beside his son in super late model racing.
Allen is lovingly remembered by is his sons, Allen J. Smeltzer and his wife, Shirley of Red Lion, Ricky Dietz and his wife, Penny; daughters Beth Clark and her husband, Kevin of Airville, Karen Winters; grandchildren, Angela Clark, Lindsey Clark Kress and her husband, Seth, Sean Smeltzer, Michael Dietz, David Dietz and his wife, Karen, Angela Winters Glatfelter and her husband, Kevin, Missy Winters Frey; six great grandchildren; brother Marlin Smeltzer of South Carolina; sister, Sandra Smeltzer Kleiman of Spring Grove, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Smeltzer was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
Memorial contributions can be made in his honor to Hospice and Community Care, 4075 Old Harrisburg Pike, Mount Joy, PA 17552 and Round Hill Presbyterian Church 7362 Church Rd, Felton, PA 17322.
