Alice Elizabeth (McCarthy) Woodward, 89, passed away Friday, August 28, 2026, at Normandie Ridge. She was the loving wife of the late Edward Joseph Woodward to whom she was married for 49 years until his passing.
A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion. A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Born on June 16, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Agnes (Hickey) McCarthy. She graduated from Catherine McAuley Commercial High School in Brooklyn, NY, and began working for a life insurance company in the beneficiary unit. Alice and Edward met, married and settled in Pearl River, NY until eventually moving to York, PA. Later when her children were in school, she received her associate’s degree from Penn State. Upon graduation, she worked for Head Start in Wellsville. In her free time, she enjoyed volunteering at the SPCA and serving at the soup kitchen, and she also coordinated the nursery at St Patrick’s Church for many years. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies Society. She enjoyed reading and especially enjoyed audiobooks in her later years. Alice loved fried chicken, coffee, new clothes, and her family.
Alice is survived by three daughters, Margie Farabaugh and her husband, Patrick of Monroeville; Susan Deloe of Etters; Julie Lewis and her husband, George of Glenmoore; and a son, John Woodward of Red Lion; ten grandchildren Patrick, Allison, Bryan, Tara, Jennifer, Daniel, Adam, Katelyn, Emma, and Ben; five great-grandchildren, Juliette, Sophia, Oliver, Gabriel and Zachary; a brother, Peter McCarthy and his wife, Evelyn of East Meadow, NY; and a sister-in-law, Barbara McCarthy. She was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick McCarthy.
