BROGUE- William F. Murphy, 85, died Saturday, May 17, 2008 at York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Joyce M. (Kindig) Murphy. The couple celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary on April 18. A Funeral Tribute service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with the Rev. Thomas D. Bellis of Paradise U.C.C. officiating. A viewing will be Thursday from 10 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A Masonic Funeral Service will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery. The York County Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. William was born in Paradise Twp. on February 14, 1923, a son of the late Elwood Murphy, Jr. and Bertha (Forry) Murphy. He was employed as a machinist for Harley-Davidson, Inc. until he retired in 1985. William was a member of the Zederatha Lodge #451 Harrisburg Consistory 32o. William was a proud US Army veteran, serving during WWII and the Korean War. He received an ETO 6 Battle Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, an ETO Victory Medal and a German Occupation Service Medal during his tour in WWII. Almost 50 years later, William was presented with a Korean Service Medal with Two Bronze Service Stars, a national Defense Service Medal, a United Nations Service Medal, and a Good Conduct medal from former US Rep. Bill Goodling, R-York County for his service during the Korean War. In addition to his wife, Joyce, a daughter, June Miller; two stepsons, Bruce and Terry Wagaman; three grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and his sisters Maybel Rohrbaugh and Philis Sterner survive William. Preceding him death are his brother, Earl Murphy, his sister, Peggy Zinn, and stepdaughter, Paulette Chodnicki.
