EFFORT-William Evers, 82, formerly of 433 South Fairview St., Lock Haven, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Brookmont Nursing Home, Effort, PA. Born in Hackensack, New Jersey on March 31, 1929, he was a son of the late Raymond J. and Anna D. (Dalton) Evers. He was a 1947 graduate of Hasbrouck Heights High School. Mr. Evers was an Army veteran of the Korean War, where he served on the line for over a year and survived against impossible odds. Following his military service, he attended Rutgers University. He was employed for many years with Bostitch, Division of Textron, where he rose from salesman to Vice-President of Marketing. He was an avid sailor and skier and a constant reader. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Peter Evers. He is survived by his children, Julie Evers (Mark Givler) of Jersey Shore, PA; Carrie Evers Messing (Don Messing) of East Stroudsburg, PA; Mark Evers of Swiftwater, PA; grandchildren, Lucas Nigro of Lake Hopatcong, NJ; Travis Givler of Yardley, PA; Wayne Nilsson of East Stroudsburg, PA. Also surviving is his former spouse, Jeanne Evers of Swiftwater, PA; sisters Maryanna Bove of River Edge, NJ, Elizabeth Semenecz of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ; a brother Ronald Evers of Rochelle Park, NJ. Funeral services for Mr. Evers will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kniffen OMalley Funeral Home, Inc., 728 Main Street, Avoca, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Ross Library, 232 West Main Street, Lock Haven, PA 17745, where Bill was for many years a devoted patron.
