AVOCA-Ronald S. "Radar" Mateyka, Sr., 55, of Main Street, Avoca, died Thursday morning at his home. Born in Scranton on September 2, 1952, he was the son of Casimir Mateyka of Florida and the late Victoria (Domoracki) Mateyka. He was a graduate of Pittston Area High School. He was an Army veteran of Desert Storm. He served with the Army Reserves for 21 years, having achieved the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Mateyka was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church, Avoca and American Legion Post 604 Williams, Moosic. He was employed by Road Scholar Transport as a truck driver since March, 2005. Prior to that he was employed by Roadway Express for 18 years. He was an avid outdoorsman. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his fianc裬 Jeannie Samsell, who died August, 2007. Surviving in addition to his father, are his former wife, Kathy Wells; sons, Ronald Mateyka and wife, Stacy, Thornhurst; Michael Mateyka and his fianc裬 Michele Slusher, Pittston Twp.; daughter Nicole Mateyka, Pittston Twp.; grandchildren, Ryan, Elizabeth, Madison and Michael, Jr.; brothers Mark Mateyka, Dupont; Casimir Mateyka, Duryea; sister Michelle Hegedty, Dalton; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 728 Main Street, Avoca. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial Monday at 9:30 a.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Church, Main Street, Avoca, with the Reverend Edward Scott officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Moosic.
