LEWISBERRY- Robert L. Zold, 102, formerly of Fairview Township, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Church of God Home in Carlisle. He was the husband of Phyllis (Coble) Zold. The couple celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on December 31, 2016. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Beaver- Urich Funeral Home, Inc., 305 West Front Street in Lewisberry, with a viewing from 10-11 am. Pastor Terry O. Frederick will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Emanuel Cemetery in Lewisberry. Full military honors will be provided by York County Veterans honor Guard. Mr. Zold was born in Rumsey, Alberta Canada on October 3, 1914, the son of Louis and Wilhelmina (Gregorits) Zold. He retired after 16 years of service at Caterpillar in York. Prior to that he worked as a stone mason and was a mechanic at Harrisburg Cadillac, prior to WWII. Mr. Zold served in the US Army in WWII where he was a tank mechanic in the 11th Armored Division. He was a member of York County Wood Carvers and Etters VFW. He volunteered for the Harrisburg Astronomical Society at the observatory outside Lewisberry. Mr. Zold leaves a son, Robert Zold of Lewisberry; two daughters, Andrea Karns and her husband James of Mechanicsburg and Betty Cook of Gettysburg; 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; and 10 great, great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, John E. Cook, Sr. and a great grandson, Samuel Cook. Memorial contributions may be made to Etters VFW, 1095 Pines Rd., Etters, PA 17319.
