DALLASTOWN- Robert James Bennett, 92, died on Friday, February 1, 2019 at his residence. He was the husband of Margaret R. (Kravontka) Bennett. The couple wed on May 20, 1950. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion with Certified Celebrant Betty Frey officiating. A viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born on July 6, 1926 in Union City, Pa, he was a son of the late Arthur B. and Beatrice (Erskine) Bennett. He was a 1943 graduate of Union City High School and attended Chicago Electronics Trade School. Robert enjoyed a nearly 40 year career at GTE, ending with his role as a Division Service Manager. Mr. Bennett served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was one of the first men at the Battle of Okinawa. Robert was a well rounded and balanced man who managed over 1,000 men at work, could fix anything, loved playing golf and was loved by all. Most importantly, he was loved by his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Along with his wife, Margaret, Robert is survived by his son, Ronald Bennett and his wife, Doreen M. of Homewood, AL; three grandchildren, Alexandra, Matthew and Brian; four great grandchildren, Hudson, Cailey, Hunter and Wyatt; and son in law, Denny Alwine of Abbottstown. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Ann Alwine who passed away peacefully on his 87th birthday; grandson, Shannon Barham; and brother, Colonel Alfred E. Bennett.
