HAYNES, ARKANSAS - Reader "Phil" Moten, Jr., 76, died Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Williamsport Regional Medical Center. He was born on April 15, 1941 in Haynes, Arkansas and was the son of the late Reader and Lular Bell (Brown) Moten, Sr. On February 18, 1960 Reader married the late Shirley (Scott) and they celebrated 38 years of marriage together until her death on January 28, 1999 Reader worked as a truck driver for most of his life. He was a member of Revival Tabernacle Church, Watsontown and Union Missionary Baptist Church in Haynes, Arkansas where he served as an usher for both churches. He enjoyed playing checkers, listening to blues music, watching Jerry Springer and eating at Chinese restaurants. He was a D.J. in his younger years best known as ‘Dr. Phil Good’ but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. Reader is survived by three sons; Aundre Moten of Dallas, PA, Frederick Moten of Coal Twp and Reader J. Moten, III of Milton, four daughters and three sons-in-law; Sherry A. and William Curtis of Baltimore, Maryland, Kim Y. and Abdul Ali of Wilmington, Delaware, April A. and Paul Woodton of Williamsport and Lisa R. Moten of Williamsport, 22 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and three sisters; Lessie Mayo of Haynes, Arkansas, Nellie Ward of Marianna, Arkansas and Dorothy Ann Moten of Marianna, Arkansas. In addition to his parents, Reader was preceded in death by his first wife; Shirley (Scott) and one son; Tyrone Moten. A public viewing will be held from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Revival Tabernacle, 960 Susquehanna Trail, Watsontown, PA 17777 followed by the funeral at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor James Bond officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 27, 2017 in Harmony Cemetery, Milton. Arrangements are being handled by Dale Ranck Cremation & Funeral Care, 125 N. Front Street, Milton.
