Manchester Twp —Raymond "Ray" Nitchman, 80, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at his residence. He was the husband of Nancy A. (Miller) Nitchman to whom he was married for 49 years. A celebration of life service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Janyce C. Jorgensen officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral chapel. Full military honors will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Nitchman was born April 2, 1926 in York, the last surviving son of Albert W. and Emma (Link) Nitchman. He was employed with Hall's Motor Transit as a mechanic for 36 years, until his retirement in 1986. A member of Zion Lutheran Church on Brandywine Lane in York, he was also a member of Shiloh American Legion Post 791, Life member of V.F.W. Post 7374 and Teamsters Retiree Club #776. As a United States Army Veteran of World War II, he served in Italy's Po Valley with the 5th Army and was on a ship to the Japanese Islands when the bomb was dropped. In addition to his wife, Mr. Nitchman is survived by one son, Robert E. Nitchman of Dover, two daughters, Nancy A. Redmond and her husband, Gene, and Connie R. Ross and her husband Daniel all of Red Lion, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Chad Nitchman and 7 brothers and 2 sisters. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to VNA/Hospice Services, 218 E. Market St., York, Pa 17403
