YORK - Michael J. Steward, 75, passed away Monday, August 16, 2010 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Julia C. (Brezler) Steward to whom he was married for 45 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Paradise (Holtzschwamm) Evangelical Covenant Church, 6777 Lincoln Highway, Thomasville, with his interim pastor, The Rev. Philip K. Nace officiating. Viewings will be held from 5-8:00 PM Friday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York and from 9-10:00 AM Saturday at the Church. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with Full Military Rites provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born July 27, 1935 in York a son of the late Joseph E. and Margaret (Boyer) Steward, he was a 1953 graduate of William Penn Senior High School. Mr. Steward retired from the former AllFirst Bank in 1998 as Vice President of Retail Lending. He began his 35 year banking career with the former Southern Pennsylvania Bank and furthered himself through the various mergers including Dauphin Deposit Bank. Mr. Steward was a member of TCA (Train Collector's Assoc.), Victory Athletic Assoc., Hawks Gunning Club, Shiloh American Legion, and had been a member of the former Bethany UCC. Michael was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and a devoted supporter of the William Penn High School Athletic Dept. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his wife, Mr. Steward is survived by two sons, Michael J. and wife Susan Steward of Phoenixville, PA and Matthew J. and wife Jennifer Steward of York; two daughters, Melissa J. and husband Eric Bridge of Ashburn, VA and Melinda J. and husband Douglas Fink of York; 10 grandchildren, Scott, Garrett and Kate Bridge; Karly and Koby Fink; Mae and Josie Steward; Mason, Luke, and Rachel Steward, along with Baby Girl Steward who will be arriving in November; a brother in law, Edward L. Fox of Jacksonville, NC and his children, David, Debby, and Chris. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joan A. Fox.
