Pottsville- Marlen E. Beury, 86, of Mill Creek, passed away Sunday morning at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Philadelphia. Born in Buck Run on September 12, 1923, he was a son of the late Howard and Mary Koehler Beury. At the age of 12, Marlen started working for his family business, Beury's coal Company. He went on to work for Alcoa, Cressona, as a machinist. Most recently, he was owner of Beury's Amusements, Pottsville. He was a Navy veteran having served with the SeaBees during World War II. During World War II he landed on Utah and Omaha beaches in France. He was awarded a medal as an expert rifleman. Marlen was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Port Carbon. He was a member of the South Schuylkill Pool league and the Mill Creek Hose Co. He was also a member of the VFW, Pottsville. Marlen was preceded in death by his wife, Nelda Bradbury Beury, who passed away in 2000; his son, Lee Beury, who passed away in 2003; his brothers, Guy and Herman Beury; his sister, Martha Ossman. He is survived by his three daughters, Helene Motley, wife of Jeff, of Lake Wynonah, Lynne Stiltner, widow of Henry, of Pottsville, and Jill E. Beury Gulas, widow of Leigh Gulas, girlfriend of Ed Hosler, of Pottsville; his son, Jack Beury, of West Virginia; his seven grandchildren, Michael Beury, Jennifer Anderson, Laura Lee, Robert Lee, Amanda Walters, Brian Stiltner and Leah E. Ernst; his six great grandchildren, Bridget Beury, Phoebe, Sylvia and Miles Anderson, and Brayden and Evrett Walters; his sister, Pearl Reichwein, of Ashland; his brother, Howard Beury, of Ashland;his daughter-in-law, Rose Marie Beury, of Ohio; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday morning at 11:00 A.M. at Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., 6th & West Market Streets, Pottsville. SALM Regnal Leibensperger will officiate. Friends may call on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. and also on Friday morning from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will be held in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
