Mae Van Scoy, 96, formerly of Moosic, died Sunday evening at the NJ Eastern Star Home, Bridgewater, NJ. Mae was born in Avoca on January 5, 1911. She was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Robins) Gordon. She was a 1929 graduate of Avoca High School. She was a member of the St. John Primitive Methodist Church, Avoca and served as a Sunday School Teacher for the children and adult program. She worked for John Coffee Hardware as a bookkeeper for over 25 years and retired from Consolidated Cigar, Moosic, in the 1980's. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: Her husband, Harold, who died in 1968; a daughter, Janet Shrader, who died in 2003; 5 sisters; Elizabeth Pointon, Olive Gordon, Jean Atwell, Ella Robinson, Ethel Phillips, and one brother, Sherman Gordon. Mae is survived by a daughter, Shirley Shaw, Piscataway, NJ, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 1 PM at Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, 728 Main St., Avoca. Officiating will be the Rev. Rich Rock and Rev. Hazel Shue. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Park. Viewing will be Thursday from 11 AM to 1 PM at the funeral home.
