POTTSVILLE-Louise M. Conrad, 84, of Mechanicsville, died Tuesday, at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville, where she had been a resident since January. Born at home in Mechanicsville, April 4, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Nelson H. and Laura Louise Buchholz Major. She was a 1944 graduate of Pottsville High School. In addition to being an accomplished artist, she was active in Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, where she was a member of the over 50 group, Circle 5, and the craft class, plus she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother. She especially enjoyed sewing and made many elaborate Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. Before retiring at the age of 71, she was a secretary at Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29, Marlin, for more than 20 years. She was an avid reader, who continued her passion for books by listening to book tape after she became blind six years ago. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar P. Conrad, in 1985 and a brother Nelson T. Major, in 2006. She is survived by a daughter Barbara Conrad, Mechanicsville, a son Dean, and his wife Maureen Conrad, Mechanicsville, a sister Joyce, wife of James Miller, Pottsville, five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Celebration of Life services will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2009, at 7:00 P.M., at Trinity Lutheran Church, Third & West Arch Street, Pottsville. Family and friends may call at the church from 6:00 P.M. till time of service. The family would prefer remembrances to be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church, Third & West Arch Streets, Pottsville, PA 17901 or to the Pottsville Free Public Library, Third & West Market Streets, Pottsville, PA 17901.
