York—Lester Samuel Altland, 63, died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at his residence in Spring Garden Township. He was the husband of Linda L. (Duncan) Altland to whom he was married for 39 years. A celebration of life service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 16, 2009 at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, with the Rev. Williams Sowers officiating. A viewing will be from 9 to 10:00 a.m., Monday, at the funeral chapel. Burial will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born March 10, 1945 in W. York, he was the son of the late Lester Aaron and Helen May (Bushy) Altland. He graduated from West York High School in 1963 and earned his college degree from Penn State University where he graduated with the class of 1967. He was also a United States Navy veteran having served in the Vietnam War. He was employed as a Senior Systems Analyst for multiple corporations in York and Maryland and retired in 2002. An avid Penn State and Orioles fan, he also enjoyed his short haired pointers, Holly and Patches and was a miniature train enthusiast. In addition to his wife, Mr. Altland is also survived by one daughter, Michelle Lyn Altland-Gibbs and her boyfriend, Keir Nolan of York; one granddaughter, Heather Lyn Marie Gibbs; a mother-in-law, Naomi Duncan of York; a father-in-law, William S. Wilson Sr., of Dillsburg; and an uncle, Charles Witman of York.
