THOMASVILLE- Leroy Richard Stough, 68, of Jackson Township, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Pappus House in York. He was the husband of Maria Esthela (Castaneda) Stough. The couple would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on November 20th. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1170 Kohler Mill Rd., in New Oxford, with a viewing from 10-11 a.m. Bishop Brian Thompson will be officiating at the service. Burial will be held privately in St. Jacob’s Union Cemetery in York New Salem. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is assisting with the arrangements. Mr. Stough was born in Jacobus on June 3, 1953, a son of the late Cletus Leroy and Grace Irene (Snyder) Stough. He started working for Peter Paul where they made York Peppermint Patties and he would bring home the seconds for his family. He retired November 1, 2021 from Wellspan York Hospital, where he was a maintenance mechanic. Mr. Stough was a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New Oxford. He was a graduate of York Vo-Tech. He enjoyed working outside on his property, spending time with his family and travel. He was always willing to help out at church and anywhere he saw someone needed help. He enjoyed a good joke and liked to laugh. The family would like to thank his buddies from work that came out and have helped them over the past few months. He was loved by many folks. Along with his wife Maria, Mr. Stough leaves a daughter, Amanda Marie Stough of Waynesboro; four sisters, Betty Mitchell of York New Salem, Lucille Ritz of Red Lion, Linda Hoke of Seven Valleys, and Susan Gunnet of Thomasville; a brother, Stuart Stough of Thomasville and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a nephew Ricky Mitchell.
