WILKES-BARRE-Joseph C. "Bumper" Shovlin, Jr., 77, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Thursday in VNA Hospice, Heritage House. Born in Pittston on July 14, 1931, he was a son of the late Joseph, Sr., and Elizabeth Shovlin. Bumper spent 50 years of his life on the road as a truck driver. Surviving is his wife of 49 years, the former Elizabeth Perez; brother Francis Xavier Shovlin; children, Bea Shovlin, Wilkes-Barre; Thomas and Christina Shovlin, Bloomsburg; Elizabeth and Daniel Myers, Fredericksburg, VA; Joan Shovlin, Wilkes-Barre and her fianc裬 Jeff Reiser, Avoca; grandchildren, Jenn Shovlin, Kyle Shovlin, Joseph D. Cornelius, Sarah Shovlin, Brittany Cornelius, Alex Shovlin and Scott Shovlin; great-grandson Joseph C. Cornelius; several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception, South Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre. Officiating will be Monsignor Thomas V. Banick.
