YORK- Jean F. Bressler, 95, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at the Kelly Manor in York. He was the husband of the late Gloria R. (Decker) Bressler, to whom he was married for 66 years. The couple were married on April 27, 1946. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 14, 2014 at 3 PM at the Fellowship Hall of Kelly Manor, 750 Kelly Drive, York. Burial will be private at Greenmount Cemetery in York. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Jean was born on July 13, 1919, in York. He was the son of the late W. Huston and Grace (Flory) Bressler. He worked 41 years as a meter supervisor for Metropolitan Edison Company until his retirement in 1979. Mr. Bressler served our country during World War II in the United States Air Force as part of the 2nd Air Division. He received a Bronze Star for outstanding work as the “lone enlisted man in intelligence in Africa”. He was a lifetime member of Union Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council, taught Sunday school, and played the organ and piano for many years. Jean was a piano teacher and played the organ for six churches in the York area. He was a member of the Antique Car Club of America, the Studebaker Driver’s Club, the Packard Club, the Historical Society, and the Met Ed Retirees Association. Mr. Bressler is survived by two daughters, Pamela Bressler Williams and her husband, G. Lance of Jamesville, VA., and Katharine Susan Bressler, the widow of the late Richard B. Kern of Canadensis, PA.; two grandchildren, Donna Bressler Kern of Los Angeles, Calif., and Peter Bressler Kern of Canadensis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Home Care Hospice, 1651A Mt. Zion Road, York, PA 17406.
