Red Lion—Jacob L. Portner, 85, died Thursday, April 5, 2007 at Manor Care Health Services-Dallastown. He was the husband of the late Ruth D. (Lutz) Portner. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, April 9, 2007 at Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with his pastor, the Rev. Thomas R. Osenbach officiating. Burial will be held in Bethlehem United Methodist (Stonepile) Cemetery with flag presentation by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. A viewing will be from 9 to 11 a.m., Monday, at the funeral chapel. Mr. Portner was born February 8, 1922 in Windsor, a son of the late Bert and Nora (Kyle) Portner. He was employed with Allis Chalmers as a machine operator for 39 years until his retirement in 1983. A United States Army veteran of World War II, he was also a member of Bethlehem (Stonepile) United Methodist Church in Red Lion, life member of Red Lion American Legion and Red Lion V.F.W. In 1977 he was elected to the Bethlehem (Stonepile) Cemetery Association and served 26 faithful years, retiring in 2003. Mr. Portner is survived by one son, Brian J. Portner of Red Lion, two daughters, Bonita L. Wheeler of Red Lion and Barbara S. Trostle of Windsor, five grandchildren, Mark Wheeler, Matthew Hess, Michelle Toomey, Alecia Morris and Jeremy Portner, 7 great-grandchildren, one brother, Paul Portner of North Carolina, one sister, Ruth Landis of Red Lion and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Cemetery Assoc. Memorial Fund, C/O David Neff, 250 Bethlehem Church Rd, Red Lion, Pa 17356.
