Howard L. Gerber Howard L. Gerber, 89, of Pottsville, passed away Wednesday morning at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville. Born in Tamaqua on February 16, 1917, he was the son of the late Horace and Catherine Berger Gerber. He was a 1934 graduate of Tamaqua High School and a graduate of McCann School of Business, Mahanoy City. He was a conductor for Conrail Railroad for 30 years until he retired in 1979. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corps having served during World War II. He was a member of Bethany Christian Fellowship, Cressona; He was a member of the American Legion in Port Carbon for 60 years; member of the West End Fire Co., Pottsville; member of the East End Fire Co., Tamaqua; member of the Schuylkill Haven Senior Citizens. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara C. Gerber, who died on May 22, 2005; his two brothers William and Carl Gerber; his sister, Ida Bachert. He is survived by his wife, Betty L. Brower Gerber, Pottsville, to whom he was married 67 years; his two daughters, Sandra E. Walters, Wife of George, Pottsville and Donna L. Gerber, Houston, TX; his two Grandsons, Steven and Christopher Walters. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at 10:00 A.M. at the Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., Pottsville. The Rev. David Wood will officiate. Friends may call on Saturday morning from 9:00 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. Memorial contributions can be made to Bethany Christian Fellowship, 102 Front St., Cressona. PA 17929.
