CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND, VA – Hilda E. (Sapp) Gallatin, 72, formerly of Glen Rock, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012 at York Hospital. She was the companion of Roy A. Slonaker for 29 years. Funeral services and burial will be private. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born September 7, 1939 in Adel, Georgia; a daughter of the late Fisher and Frankie Lucille (Nicholson) Sapp, she was a member of Chincoteague Island American Legion Post 159 Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Riders, and Mt. Wolf VFW Post 2493 Ladies Auxiliary. Hilda loved fishing, baking, reading, completing puzzles, and going to car shows and riding motorcycles with Roy. She was also a member of 3C’s in Chincoteague. In addition to her companion, Hilda is survived by two daughters, Bonnie J. and husband Theodore Billet of Mt. Wolf and Penny M. Handy of Red Lion; two sons, Glenn E. and wife Lori Smith of Glen Rock and Michael W. and wife Loretta Smith of Glenville; six grandchildren, Jebb, Jenna, James, Matthew, Katie, and Jennifer; four step grandchildren, Nikki, Brad, Heather, and Adriene; nine great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; a brother, Raymond Sapp of Tampa, FL; and five sisters, Nell Thomas and Judy Bailey of Ft. McCoy, FL, Betty Miller of Riverview, FL, Barbara Peel of Tampa, FL, and Brenda Pickett of Hollywood, FL. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jesse Tracey; and a brother, David Sapp.
