DALLASTOWN - Hester P. Umberger, 97, passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 12, 2009 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Wilke Seldon Umberger. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Umberger will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 15, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 E. Main Street, Dallastown, with the Rev. Roger H. Mentzer officiating. A viewing will be held 10-11:00 AM at the church. Burial will take place in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Umberger was born May 16, 1911 in Hemlock N.C., a daughter of the late Verner Worth and the late Lelia Graybeal Phipps. Mrs. Umberger was an elementary school teacher for 36 years. She taught in one room schools with grades 1-8 in Lancaster and York Counties. She completed her teaching career as a fourth grade teacher at Stewartstown Elementary School. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and camping with her family. She loved her church and was a member of the Ladies Bible Class. Mrs. Umberger is survived by two daughters, Pauline Good and husband Robert of Dallastown, and Louise Umberger of York; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister. She was preceded in death by a grandson, and a brother. Hester leaves a legacy of kindness which she showed to her family and friends who needed her.
