Harry E. Smith, went to his eternal home at 7:49 AM on Thursday, July 7, 2016. He joined his wife, Hazel, who predeceased him by three years. He was 90 years young, and was prepared to continue his journey. Born in Shickshinny, Pennsylvania on February 3, 1926, Harry also grew up in Meshoppen, Philadelphia (where he was a Boy Scout Leader), and York. He was the son of the late Ray F. Smith and late Roma (Yaple) Smith Wentzler. He and his wife Hazel raised their family in York County prior to retiring in Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, PA in 2005. At a young age, he was a welder for his father. Harry E. Smith then worked as a Design Draftsman and then Checker for Borg-Warner/York International. Most notably he was a design draftsman for the air conditioning/refrigeration system for the World Trade Center Twin Towers in New York City. Harry Smith was a devoted and faithful servant and participated as an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church, York, PA. He was a President of the Calvary United Methodist Men, member of the Wesley Fellowship, and choir participant. Harry fulfilled many church positions as Youth Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Church Financial Secretary, and Trustee. He is survived and will be missed by: his children and their spouses, Rena Beruck and her husband Bill, York, PA; Rosemary Martin and her husband Kevin, Frederick, MD; and David Smith and his wife Sharon, Spring Grove, PA; his grandchildren, Ryan and Rhonda Leathery, and Katie Beruck; Aaron and Danielle Smith; and Tyler Martin. He also is survived by his brothers John and Paul and was predeceased by his brothers Jim and Donald. On Monday, July 11, 2016, Heffner Funeral Home, York, PA provided immediate family time. On Saturday, July 30, 2016, multiple events are planned with Pastor Mike Brossman and Pastor Roland Garvin officiating: a gravesite committal of ashes service for both Harry and Hazel Smith at Prospect Hill Cemetery, York PA at 11:30 AM; a visitation period with the family at 2:30 PM and a memorial celebration of the life and faith of Harry Smith at 3:00 PM at Calvary United Methodist Church, York, PA. A time of Fellowship and a homemade meal will immediately follow the memorial service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, 11 N.
