George H. Sonny" Macneal Iii

York-George H. "Sonny" Macneal III, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Wendi A. (Thomas) Macneal to whom he was married for 32 years. A celebration of life service will be 11 am, Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc, 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, with Pastor Charlie Hostetter officiating. Viewings will be held from 6-8 pm, Tuesday and from 10-11 am, Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born May 3, 1949 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was a son of the late George H. Macneal II and Elma (Collars) Rice. He was employed with Consolidated Freightways as a truck driver for 20 plus years and later worked with Yellow Transportation and was currently with the Teamsters Construction Division. While he was a truck driver he went by the cb handle "General Custard". A United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, he was also a member of the Teamsters Local 776 and various locals in Maryland as well as union steward for many years. He was a true family man, an all around do-it-yourselfer, enjoyed NASCAR, gardening, landscaping, fishing, hunting, was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast and loved playing Santa at family and Teamster's Christmas parties. In addition to his wife, "Sonny" is survived by a son, George H. Macneal IV and girlfriend, Jan Boyd, a daughter, Amy L. Macneal and boyfriend, Jeremy Miller, two grandchildren, Kanyon and Sarah Macneal, two brothers, David Macneal and wife, Sharon and Freddy Rice and wife, Tammy, five sisters, Gloria Call and husband, Ronnie, Sharon Raimondo, Karen Hosea and husband, Bob, Elma Van Horn and Cindy Duckworth and husband, Kenny, brother-in-law, Page Reynolds, mother-in-law, S. Ann Thomas, sister-in-law, Nancy Thomas, aunt and uncle, Gayle and Tom Cave, step mother-in-law, Linda Thomas, nieces and nephews, cousins and tons of friends. He was preceded in death by, a daughter, BettyJo Macneal, sister, Linda Reynolds, step father, Fred Rice and father-in-law, Kenneth Thomas.
