SPRING GARDEN TOWNSHIP- Frank D. Benedict, 73 of York, died, Saturday, August 15, 2009 at his residence with his family at his side. He was the husband of Geraldine I. "Gerry" (Brenneman) Benedict. The couple celebrated their 54th Wedding anniversary on January 23, 2009. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Faith Fellowship, 530 Mulberry St. in York. His pastor, The Reverend Patrick J. Rooney and Pastor Jim Ward will be officiating at the service. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York and 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. Mr. Benedict was born in York on October 12, 1935, a son of the late Harry J. Benedict and Eva (Vanasdale) Gross Benedict. He retired from UPS, where he was a Delivery Driver and a Union Representative. After retiring he worked for Kelly Transit in Dover. Mr. Benedict was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in York and previously a member of the former Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Windsor Park. He was a member of the Viking Athletic Club, York Antique Car Club, Shiloh American Legion and a life member of Both the Hawk's Gunning Club and 12th Ward Democratic Club. He was also an avid hunter. Along with his wife, Gerry, Mr. Benedict leaves a daughter, Robinn Ann Metzel and her husband Gregg of Seneca, SC; two sons, Scott H.H. Benedict of York and Kevin Dearl Benedict and his wife Lisa of York; also Thomas Gentzler and his wife Deb of York; six grandchildren, Andrew, Gregg, Jack, Dalton, Alara, and Ashley; five great grandchildren, Trevor, Jewel, Dylan, Eric, and Aaliyah, three sisters, Mathorn Jackson, and Lydia McGuigan both of York, and Eva Kelly of Dover; and a brother, Stanford Gross of York. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vance and Fern Gross. Memorial contributions may be made to a food bank of choice or Dialysis Center of York, 308 St. Charles Way, York, PA 17402.
