YORK - Emma K. (Lindsey) Althoff, 94, of York, died Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Joseph E. Althoff with whom she spent 35 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, December 1, 2008 in the John Calvin Memorial Chapel at First Presbyterian Church, 225 East Market Street, York, with her pastor The Rev. Dr. John E. Morgan officiating. A visitation will be held 10-11:00 AM, Monday at the Chapel. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Althoff was born February 15, 1914 in York, a daughter of the late Miles M. and Helen (Herr) Lindsey. After working for the Franklin Discount Store for 16 years, Mrs. Althoff was employed at Bon-Ton Department Store, as an associate in the Sports Department, for 10 years until her retirement. Mrs. Althoff was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in York. She was also a life member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Mrs. Althoff is survived by a son, Donald J. Althoff and wife Nancy of Red Lion; a daughter, Maureen A. Staley and husband Dave of York; seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Orilla Tabbutt of Ca., and Marie Shearer of York; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane M. Martin in 1992; three brothers, M. Kenneth, James W., and Robert H. Lindsey; and a sister Lousia Marquette. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 225 E. Market St., York, PA, 17403.
